About Minnesota Water Quality Lookup

Making water quality information accessible to all Minnesotans

Our Mission

We believe every Minnesotan has the right to know what's in their drinking water. Our platform makes it easy to check water quality by simply entering your address—no need to navigate complex government databases or interpret technical reports.

By aggregating data from official government sources and presenting it in a clear, accessible format, we help residents make informed decisions about their water safety.

Data Sources

All water quality data comes from official government sources:

  • EPA SDWIS (Safe Drinking Water Information System)

Water system information, EPA violations, compliance records, and service area boundaries

  • USGS Water Quality Portal

Lead and nitrate concentration measurements from water quality testing

How We Calculate Grades

Water systems receive letter grades (A-F) based on three key factors:

Lead Levels

EPA action level is 15 ppb. Systems well below this threshold score higher.

Nitrate Levels

EPA maximum contaminant level is 10 ppm. Lower nitrate scores higher.

PFAS Detection

Systems with no PFAS detected receive full points. Detection results in point deduction.

Privacy & Data Collection

We take your privacy seriously:

  • Addresses are only used for geocoding to find your water system
  • We do not store, sell, or share your address information
  • All data queries are anonymous
